The Industrial Technology Research Institute (
ITRI) is moving forward with its plans to promote the development of high-tech industries in southern Taiwan, with the second phase of the Southern Taiwan Innovation Park (STIP) scheduled for completion in May 2005.
ITRI President Dr. John-see Lee said the first phase of the STIP was already at full capacity with 10 companies, and added that the second phase increase the park's space tenfold.
According to
ITRI sources, the research group's future goals for the STIP include bringing in over 100 companies, providing training resources for 10,000 technology personnel, and hosting the
R&D centers of at least five international companies.
The STIP will specialize in key technologies for MicroNano system applications, 3C technologies and other integrated technologies, nanotechnology design and application technologies, nanotechnology applications in the traditional industries, and chemical industry technology applications for the petrifaction industries.
ITRI's development plans include developing three other branches in the south: the Liujia Branch in Tainan County, which will research core technologies and maintain testing facilities; the Tainan Science-based Industrial Park Branch, which will focus on optoelectronics component design and
R&D for manufacturing equipment technology; and the Nanzi Branch in Kaohsiung, which will be devoted to research planning and testing for mass production models.
