The National Science Council approved a new round of investment from high-tech companies, including a
NTD200 million project from NEC Taiwan.
NEC has received permission to establish a plant in the Southern Taiwan Science Park to produce CCFL Tubes, an essential component in LCD screen backlight modules. An NSC representative noted that demand for CCFL tubes has increased with growth in the large LCD screen market, and that NEC could provide a stable supply for Taiwan's backlight module manufacturers while raising their international competitiveness.
The NSC also approved a project from Li-ji Electronics, which plans to invest
NTD350 million at the Chunan Base at the Hsinchu Science-based Industrial Park to produce SRAM and speciality DRAM. The NSC representative said that Li-ji Electronics fulfills Taiwan's need for a DRAM design company, adding that the company will greatly contribute to the development of DRAM technology in Taiwan.
Ling-xiang Technology is another company approved to enter the Chunan Base at the Hsinchu Science-based Industrial Park with a
NTD117 million investment. The company specializes in WLAN, SoC, and Internet gateway devices for home use.
