Taiwan's average family held NTD 7.36 million in assets in 2002

September 27, 2004

The average Taiwanese household was worth a net NTD 7.36 million in 2002, according to the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics. In 2002, Taiwan's average family held NTD 3.23 million in real estate and land assets, NTD 1.46 million in marketable securities (stocks and bonds), NTD 410,000 in cash savings and NTD 1.36 million in other savings. However, while this average family possessed total financial assets of NTD 4.82 million, it was also burdened with NTD 1.15 million in debt, including NTD 930,000 in loans and NTD 220,000 in other financial debt.

The average NTD 7.36 million figure for 2002 marks a slight drop from NTD 7.48 million in 2001. This decline is attributed primarily to the decline in real estate and stock prices that year.
