Taiwan IBM, in a move that reflects the magnetism of the robust industrial development in southern Taiwan, opened its Kaohsiung operations office on August 12.
Taiwan IBM's president Hsu Chu-sheng noted at the office's opening ceremony that, of IBM's total global revenues of
USD 89.1 billion in 2003, over 47% were generated by service oriented operations. Hsu added that, while this global ratio could climb to over 50% this year, there is still room for improvement for IBM's Taiwan operations as service revenues in Taiwan have yet to reach 40%. In an effort to boost the service ratio, Taiwan IBM is expanding its customer services operations in southern Taiwan.
IBM's Kaohsiung office will employ around 100 personnel, making it the largest information technology services company in Taiwan. In addition to the provision of services, software will also be one of the focuses of this new operations office.
