Dell, the world's largest retail seller of personal computers, has decided to set up a showroom in Taipei in hopes of becoming one of the top three notebook computer brands on the Taiwan market. While Dell has well-established partnerships with some of Taiwan's major OEM IT hardware manufacturers, including Hon Hai, Quanta and Compal, this marks the PC retailer's first retail showroom here. Since it entered Taiwan's PC market later than such competitors as Hewlett-Packard and IBM it has claimed a smaller market share to date. Currently ranked among the top ten computer brands in Taiwan, Taiwan Dell expects the showroom, to be opened in the vicinity of the Taipei Financial Center (aka Taipei 101, the world's tallest building), to help it improve its market share in Taiwan's retail PC market. While Dell's renowned direct sales method has allowed it to become the worldwide leader for PC sales, this method is considered less appropriate than the use of sales networks in Taiwan. The opening of this new showroom marks the beginning of a new sales approach for Dell in Taiwan.
