Forum on overseas investment and corporate social responsibility

The Industrial Development and Investment Center is holding an event on Aug. 10 entitled the "Forum on Overseas Investment and Corporate Social Responsibility." The purpose of the forum is to discuss environmental, labor welfare, and supply management issues facing Taiwan companies overseas in light of the pressures and business opportunities associated with corporate social responsibility.

The event acknowledges that Taiwan-based multinational companies are now an important source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the Asia-Pacific Region, and sustainable development poses an inevitable challenge for global corporations.

The forum will feature talks from members of Taiwan's business community. Huang Mao Siong, director-general of the Business Council for Sustainable Development of the ROC, will discuss current trends for multinationals and the value of corporate social responsibility for global sustainable development. High-level management figures from prominent Taiwan multinationals will share their overseas experiences and offer case studies, giving participants insight on each company's operations philosophy. These speakers include Paul Hsu, chairman and CEO (and forum host) of PHYCOS International Co., Ltd; Guo-kun Hsiao, Asia-Pacific Purchasing Department Manager at HP; Susan Lin, CEO and managing director of Morgan Stanley Taiwan; Tsan-shen Lin, CEO of Uni- President Group and Eric Lin, Chairman of Les Enphants Co. Ltd.

Participation in the forum is free, and all interested parties are asked to register in advance. The first 100 people to register will receive a free copy of "From Community Concern to Corporate Aspiration" (Copies are limited to one per company).
