IDIC launches new and improved Invest in Taiwan website

July 16, 2004

Site now offers new online investment planning and business matching services, key sector information, business-related resources, enhanced bilingual functionality, and a great new look.

The Industrial Development and Investment Center (IDIC) proudly announces the formal launch of its new and improved Invest in Taiwan website (http://investintaiwan.gov.tw), a leading government portal providing bilingual English and Chinese information on all aspects of investing in Taiwan.

Angela Chu, Director-General of the IDIC, lauded the bilingual site as a major step forward in providing investor-focused information and services, further evidence of Taiwan's commitment to providing a range of investment opportunities and to creating a high quality investment environment. In addition to continuing to provide comprehensive, up-to-date information on Taiwan's investment climate and incentives, the new site places greater focus on key sectors as well as improved mechanisms for directly interacting with the IDIC, such as an online investment plan service (How Can We Help You?), a biweekly e-newsletter (Taiwan Investment Biweekly), a database service for investment opportunities (Opportunities Listing), and a Multimedia Center for access to audio and video presentations from the IDIC.

A major new feature of the site is the Key Sectors content, which now covers fourteen major investment areas including semiconductor and microelectronics; display and optoelectronics; biotechnology and pharmaceutical; telecommunications; digital content; precision machinery; materials and fine chemicals; aviation and aerospace; nanotechnology; trade, commerce and logistics; technical and engineering services; transportation and public construction; headquarters and R&D centers; and finance, securities and insurance.

A host of convenient new features has also been added to the site, enabling the site's target users, mainly busy senior executives, to quickly locate information relevant to their investment area and, by way of related content and links regarding locations, incentives and application procedures, obtain complete details to successfully carry out their investment plans. The search function on the site can accommodate searches for any terms on the site in either English or Chinese from either language interface. Similarly, the backend content management and web administration systems are fully bilingual to accommodate the needs of the site's bilingual editorial team.

A flexible, modular approach to content structuring and navigation design has been adopted to better integrate all the sections and functions of the site. Furthermore, the site has been developed to ensure conformity with the Research, Development, and Evaluation Commission's universal web access requirements for government websites. It also conforms to strict XHTML and CSS standards advanced by the international web communications standards body, W3C.
