The Industrial Development and Investment Center (
IDIC) has invited 120 managerial-level figures from various Japanese enterprises in Taiwan to participate in the Taiwan Investment Environment Conference on July 1, 2pm, at the Taipei International Convention Center, Room 201 DE. The purpose of the conference is to familiarize Japanese companies in Taiwan with the island's general business environment.
After an opening speech from Minister of Economic Affairs Ho Mei-Yueh, management level representatives from Nomura Research Institute, Ltd., Taipei Branch, Deloitte, Touche, and Tohmatsu Taiwan, and Pasona Taiwan will give talks on a range of topics concerning the business environment in Taiwan for Japanese investors, including Taiwan's position in the "pan-Chinese economy," the accounting system, and the labor market. The conference will be conducted entirely in Japanese.
According to past statistics from the
MOEA Investment Commission, Japan has always had the highest number of investment projects of all foreign investors, and has always been an important source of imported skills and technical support. In 2003, Japan had a total of 203 investment projects in Taiwan worth over US$700 million, comprising almost 20 percent of all foreign investment in Taiwan.
In recent years, the bulk of Japanese investment in Taiwan has been in the LCD panel-related industries. Japanese companies are also investing more in the service industries in Taiwan, a market that is seeing increasing growth. In addition, many Japanese companies are closely watching Taiwan's advantageous position in the "pan-Chinese economy," making Taiwan investment a prerequisite for entering the Chinese market.
The
IDIC says that it hopes the conference can impress upon Japanese companies in Taiwan the strength of the island's trade and personnel, as well as the island's importance in the "pan-Chinese economy." The
IDIC is also encouraging Japanese companies to raise their level of investment in Taiwan, while utilizing Taiwan as an operations base to create a win-win situation for all parties.
