Taiwan’s Export Processing Zones (EPZ) provide low-cost, efficient solutions for the manufacturing, logistics and distribution, and high-tech industries. Located at key locations throughout the island, the EPZs have been a driving force in Taiwan’s economic development since the 1960s, and remain in step with changing economic trends.
Taiwan’s central location offers a wealth of strategic possibilities for companies seeking to gain a foothold in the Asia-Pacific region. With the advent of the knowledge-based economy, Taiwan’s EPZs are shifting their focus to the high-tech industry and capital-intensive businesses by developing value-added industrial parks, special warehousing and transshipment zones, and industry-specific logistics facilities. The electronics and electrical engineering industries are currently the biggest employers at the EPZs, and the high-precision instrument industry continues to grow. These changes are helping EPZs create a robust investment environment and lay the foundation for sustainable business development.
