Taiwan operates several different kinds of power plants to accommodate industrial development. Major power sources include a large coal-fired thermal power plant in Taichung, the Hsingta, Southern, Tunghsiao and Talin gas fired power plants, as well as several nuclear and hydroelectric power plants. In addition, new power plants are planned to support further economic development.
